Increased Community Need

Changing regional demographics, including a growing population of children and seniors, will require new and more specialized medical services that we cannot accommodate in our current facilities due to space limitations.

Between 2005 and 2035 the Bay Area will grow by about 2 million people to a population of more than 9 million, according to the Association of Bay Area Governments.

During the same period the region’s median age will increase from 36.5 years to 42.5 years old. The region as a whole will experience a significant increase in its population of people older than 60 years, according to ABAG.

Additionally, ABAG projects that by 2035 the total population of children expected to live in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties will be 574,300.

The growth of populations that traditionally require more frequent and more advanced medical services requires us to expand and modernize our facilities to accommodate those populations.
