About Us

The Stanford University Medical Center, which includes Stanford Hospital & Clinics, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, and the Stanford School of Medicine, is one of the leading medical campuses in the world. Collectively, these hospitals and the school of medicine provide the most advanced patient care through world-class, multidisciplinary medical programs led by world-class physicians and medical staff.

In order for us to continue to serve our region’s current and future healthcare needs, the Medical Center must rebuild and modernize facilities to meet new seismic safety standards issued to all acute care hospitals. The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal and Replacement Project will ensure the construction of a new adult hospital in order to comply with SB 1953, which mandates all acute care hospitals in California be retrofitted or rebuilt to meet new seismic safety standards by 2013. The project will also modernize and expand Packard Children’s current facilities in order to address the critical shortage of patient beds facing both of the hospitals, along with increasing patient needs, undersized facilities, and the need for these facilities to accommodate changing technologies that will further new advances in medical care. Additionally, the School of Medicine facilities will replace outdated laboratory facilities with modern facilities to accommodate research discoveries in diagnostic and therapeutic applications in order to translate theses discoveries into new cures for our patients.
